Fish 'n' Fun Days

Join us June 10th or 24th, 2012 On June 10 - Adults fishing with a youth 15 years old or younger do not need a license.
KIDS! Grab your folks and head to Lake Shetek for an afternoon of Fish 'N' Fun. In addition to learning the basics of fishing, the learning center staff will show kids how to make their own Pop Can Caster, a Japanese fish print, and will lead children through fun activities that examine fish management and water stewardship. Best of all we'll launch the NEW pontoon boat in search of the BIG ONE! Bait and poles are provided, if you don't have your own. You must bring the luck!
Cost is only $6 per person!
ALL AGES invited. Held on the grounds of Shetek Lutheran Ministries, 14 Keeley Island Dr., Lake Shetek.

AT THE
SHETEK ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING CENTER
A Natural Place for a wild Birthday Party
Birthday parties at Shetek are 2 1/2 hour celebrations for ages 4 - 12 yrs. Children will explore Nature topics with our trained staff for 90 minutes and then with the remaining time you may enjoy snacks, use the playground or gym, open gifts, or explore the campground.
Choose from the nature themes listed below, or if your child has a special interest we'll try to create a party around that special topic:
Ladybug Invasion (4-7 yr olds)
Prickers & Stickers (4-6 yr olds)
Eagle Eyes
Creepie Crawlers
Waiting for Wings
Who Goes there?
Something's Fishy!
Late Night Acro-Bats
Orienteering Exploration (10-12 yr olds)
In order to provide a quality program for your child and friends parties are limited to 15 children and must be accompanied by a minimum of one parent or guardian.
We provide:
90 minutes of programming by Learning Center staff, including live animals, active games, nature studies, fun hands-on learning activities, and more....
Festive party decorations
Plates, cups and eating utensils
Use of our refrigerator or freezer for your refreshments
Outdoor picnic area and campfire rings
Rustic Party Room
Clean-up after the party!
Cost: $79.00
10 days advance notice is suggested to schedule your party (days and times are flexible). $20 deposit necessary to secure booking.
Programs are conducted either inside or outside depending on weather
Optional: We'll provide "wild" cupcakes (kids help decorate), beverages, AND a theme-related party favor for $2.25/per child ($16.00 minimum fee)

Cross Country Skiing!

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
Sat. January 7th 1:30 - 4pm
Rhythm, stride and glide! Cross-country skiing basics: putting on equipment, falling down & getting up, diagonal stride and stopping. Then its off to explore the winter wonderland of the local State park, or the grounds of the campground. For novice skiers and those who want to review.
Ages:10 - adult *children 12 & under must be accompanied by an adult.. Limited enrollment.

Recreational use began about the turn of the century. The simplicity of snowshoeing can make the sport immediately enjoyable for all ages. The slower pace allows for a perfect opportunity to truly appreciate the wonders of nature in wintertime, which we may often miss.
Our environmental education director, Vicki Doeden, will offer two opportunities to join her on Sunday, January 8th. Families are encouraged to sign up for the 1:30 - 4pm session. * Children should be 8 yrs or older; younger ones may follow along. SNOWSHOE-MAKING Weekend Workshop

Enjoy the rewards of making your own pair of traditional Ojibwe or Bearpaw snowshoes in this 2-day workshop. (ashwood/pre-bent frames) Meals and snacks provided while we work in front of a cozy fire in the old Red Cloud log cabin located on Keeley Island, Lake Shetek.

BUTTERFLY HOUSE!
WAITING FOR WINGS (Create a Butterfly House)

Come to Shetek Environmental Learning Center and learn about the amazing life cycle of one of nature's most beautiful and delicate creatures, the Butterfly! Everyone receives 3-5 caterpillars, and then creates their own unique butterfly house where their caterpillars will live until they transform into Painted Lady butterflies a few weeks later.
This activity is recommended for kids 4yrs - 12yrs, accompanied by an adult.
Fee: $13.25 per project, plus $4.50 per child. *groups may work together on one project.
